Why fit an EP Radiator Guard?

Radiators are designed and positioned to maximise the cooling effect of passing airflow to help maintain a consistent engine running temperature. Unfortunately, because of their 'open' position, coolers are prone to damage from road debris. The standard 450SR S radiator's delicate cooling fins and internal core are prone from being 'shot blasted' or punctured by stones, grit etc. Damaged or bent fins can cause engine overheating. The EP guard greatly reduces the chances of the radiator being damaged or, worse, holed - leaking coolant can cause rapid overheating, which can lead to engine damage.

Why is a motorcycle radiator guard necessary?

The EP radiator guard helps protect the Honda CB1000 Hornet radiator from road debris damage; damage that occurs when stones are picked up and thrown by the front tyre or other traffic. The radiator is predominantly made up of delicate cooling fins that easily bend; within the cooler there is an internal core of pipework that can be damaged beyond safe repair. Misaligned cooling fins block passing air and this can lead to the engine overheating. Holed coolant carrying galleries cause rapid overheating with a high possibility of engine damage. Leaking coolant can also cause loss of grip if it reaches the motorcycle's tyres.
